Sample Specification: Lighting a Boutique Hotel with CTO Lighting

This is an illustrative sample specification, not a completed client project. It shows how our team would approach lighting a boutique hotel with CTO Lighting and Araco Lumière, using pieces we sell today.

Take a typical brief: a converted country house of around 20 guest rooms, with a restaurant, a bar and a double-height entrance hall. The designer wants handcrafted British lighting in a palette of bronze, glass and alabaster that suits stone architecture. Here is how we would put the specification together.

Guest rooms: one wall light, repeated

Using a single design across every room creates a disciplined visual language and simplifies maintenance. The CTO Lighting Gaia Tall — a hand-worked glass cylinder on a precision metal fitting — works either side of the bed and beside mirrors, with flush or plate mounting and DALI control options. For bathroom zones, CTO's Artes wall light is available in an IP44 bathroom-rated version; always confirm the zone rating on the product page.

Restaurant: even light over long tables

Over long communal tables, a CTO Artes Pendant — illuminated honed alabaster in hand-finished metal plates — or a Trace Linear Chandelier spreads warm light along the table. Above booths or smaller tables, individual Lucid pendants create more intimate pools of light.

Entrance hall: one statement piece

A double-height hall needs scale. The CTO Nimbus Chandelier suspends clouds of hand-blown fluted glass across a sculptural frame, and the Avalon Chandelier offers a floating ring of honed alabaster. Both come with DALI options.

Corridors and the bar

For corridors, repeat a compact wall light at regular intervals; natural alabaster wall lights from Araco Lumière, such as the Frozen Aura, give a warm, low glow at a lower cost per point. In the bar, a cluster of Frozen Nexa alabaster pendants over the counter adds warmth without competing with the entrance hall.

Planning the programme

  • Lead times: CTO Lighting is made to order — the lead time is shown on each product page and confirmed after you order. Araco Lumière is made to order in approximately 6–8 weeks. Build in margin for installation and snagging before opening.
  • Controls: agree DALI or phase dimming with the electrical contractor before ordering, as DALI versions are separate products.
  • Installation: all lighting should be installed by a qualified electrician.
  • Delivery: free UK delivery with no minimum spend.
