Tala makes design-led LED lighting from London — sculptural pendants, wall lights, table lamps and portable lamps, plus the mouth-blown decorative bulbs that made the brand's name. The range is broad enough that choosing within it takes a little orientation, particularly because the bulb is often part of the design rather than something hidden inside a shade.
This guide covers the main collections, how the bulbs work, and the handful of decisions that actually matter before you order.
First, the thing that makes Tala different
Most decorative lighting brands design a fitting and leave the light source to whatever bulb you screw in. Tala started from the other end: it designed the bulb first, and the fittings came afterwards. That has two consequences worth understanding as a buyer.
The first is that the quality of the light itself is a large part of what you are paying for — high colour rendering so materials and skin tones look right, low flicker, and dim-to-warm behaviour on many bulbs, meaning the colour temperature drops warmer as you dim rather than staying flatly cool. It is the closest LED gets to the way an old incandescent lamp behaved at low levels.
The second is more practical: you need to check whether a bulb is included. On many Tala fittings the bulb is visible and integral to the look, and pieces are sold both with and without. A pendant listed with a Sphere or Oval bulb is a different product, and a different price, from the same pendant supplied bare.
The main collections
Alumina
Softly rounded, ceramic-like forms in a range of muted colourways — Blossom, Chalk, Charcoal, Sage and Sapphire. Alumina runs across pendants and a multi-use table lamp, which makes it one of the easier families to carry through a scheme: the same shape and colour on a bedside as over the island.
Available as single, triple and nine-pendant configurations, and offered both with and without the Sphere V bulb.
Basalt
Faceted, columnar forms in brass or stainless steel, taking their geometry from columnar basalt rock. Basalt is the more architectural of the pendant families and holds its own in a double-height space or over a long table. Also available in single, triple and nine configurations.
Bower
A shaded pendant in colourways including Dark Green and Oyster White — warmer and more domestic than Basalt, and the family to look at if you want colour rather than metal. Frequently paired with the Oval bulb.
Echo
The Echo Chandelier, designed in collaboration with David Weeks, is the statement piece of the range — a multi-arm form for dining tables, stairwells and reception spaces where the fitting is meant to be looked at rather than looked through.
Wall, table and portable

The bulbs
Sold separately as well as with fittings. The Voronoi bulbs are the sculptural, branching-filament originals; Sphere and Oval are the cleaner geometric forms that pair with most of the pendant families. If you already own pendants from another brand, a Tala bulb is the cheapest way to find out whether the light quality is worth the rest of the range to you.
Choosing a configuration
Single, triple or nine is less about the size of the room than the shape of what is underneath.
- Single — bedsides, a small round table, a stairwell where the drop does the work
- Triple — a kitchen island or a rectangular dining table, spaced along the length
- Nine — a cluster over a large table or in a void, where you want mass rather than a line
A rough rule for a dining table: the fitting or cluster should read as roughly half to two-thirds the table width, and hang around 75–90cm above the surface. Over an island you can go a little higher so sightlines across the kitchen stay open.
What to confirm before you order
- Bulb included or not. The most common source of surprise.
- Maximum drop. Suspension is adjustable within limits. On a stairwell or double-height space, check the figure rather than assuming.
- Dimmer compatibility. Many bulbs are dimmable and several are dim-to-warm, but performance depends on the specific dimmer module. Confirm before ordering if you are retrofitting.
- Bathroom and outdoor use. IP ratings differ across the range. Do not assume a portable lamp rated for a terrace covers a wet zone in a bathroom.
- Lead time on the specific item. Not the brand, the item. Two pieces from the same collection can sit in completely different stock positions.
Lead times, and why they matter more than they should
Decorative lighting is usually specified late and ordered later still, which is why it so often becomes the thing holding up a finished room. A lot of lighting sites publish no delivery time at all on the product page.
