What makes lighting luxury rather than expensive

Price alone is not the distinction. What separates the pieces in this collection is that the material is the design rather than a coating applied to it — solid brass and bronze that patinate rather than plated steel that chips, quarried alabaster rather than moulded resin, hand-blown and cast glass rather than pressed. These are fittings made in small numbers and finished by hand, and built to be rewired and rehung rather than replaced.

The practical consequence is that a luxury fitting looks better at low brightness and ages into a room instead of dating it. That matters most where lighting is on for hours at a time and seen close up: dining rooms, principal bedrooms, entrance halls and hospitality interiors.

• Alabaster — natural gypsum stone, translucent rather than transparent, so light glows through the body of the stone without glare. Every piece is veined differently.
• Brass and bronze — warmer and more directional than alabaster, in satin, antique and polished finishes.
• Crystal and glass — refracts and sparkles, the most formal option, suited to dining rooms and reception spaces.

The brands we carry

CTO Lighting — handmade to order in alabaster, bronze and brass, with DALI and IP44 variants available on selected designs for hospitality and bathroom specification. Lead times are shown on each product page.

Araco Lumière — our own alabaster and crystal lighting range, handmade to order. The lead time is shown on each product page.

Tala — sculptural forms paired with Tala's own LED light sources, in solid brass, stainless steel, graphite, oak and walnut. Selected designs are held in stock. Tala delivery is charged separately (see below).

Lladró — porcelain lighting from the Spanish house better known for its figurines.

How to light a room properly

The most common mistake in a high-specification interior is relying on a single bright source overhead. Good schemes layer three things: an ambient layer that sets the overall level, a task layer where people read, cook or work, and an accent layer that picks out artwork, joinery or texture.

In practice that usually means a pendant or chandelier for the ambient layer, wall lights at eye level and table or floor lamps for task light, and directional fittings for accent. Put the layers on separate circuits or dimmers so the room can be bright at 9am and low at 9pm. A dining room lit only by a single pendant at full output will never feel right, however good the pendant is.

Delivery and lead times

Free UK delivery on every order, with one exception: Tala. Tala ships on the supplier's own delivery rates, shown at checkout, with standard UK delivery of 4–5 working days. Everything else is delivered free within the UK, with no minimum spend, on an approved UK delivery promise of 3–5 working days once dispatched.

Lead times vary by brand and are shown on each product page. Selected Tala designs are held in stock. Araco Lumière and CTO Lighting pieces are handcrafted to order, which suits project programmes where delivery is scheduled rather than immediate — check the individual product page for the current lead time before ordering.

International orders are quote-first: contact us for a delivery quote before ordering. International delivery is priced door to door on a DDP basis, so duties and clearance are included and nothing is payable on arrival.

Can these fittings be dimmed?

Integrated LED designs generally can, with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer. For G9 and E27 fittings it depends on the lamp fitted. Contact us for the specification on a particular design.
