Where a bench earns its place

A bench is the most useful piece of furniture people leave out of a scheme. At the end of a bed it gives somewhere to sit to put shoes on and somewhere to lay clothes that isn't the floor. In a hallway it does the same job on the way in and out. In a dressing room it is the only seating that doesn't take up a corner.

Because it sits low, a bench adds texture and colour at a level where it reads without dominating — which is why a bouclé bench works in a bedroom where a bouclé armchair would be too much.

Getting the size right

  • End of a bed — the bench should be narrower than the bed, roughly two thirds to three quarters of its width. A bench as wide as the bed looks like a mistake.
  • Height — aim level with or slightly below the mattress top, usually 45–55cm.
  • Clearance — leave at least 45cm between the bench and the wall or furniture opposite.
  • Hallways — measure the depth carefully; anything over 45cm deep narrows a corridor more than expected.

Choosing by material

Bouclé adds texture at low level without introducing colour. Velvet is richer and hides marks well in a hallway. Woven and linen keep a bedroom scheme light.

Trade and projects

Araco Interiors is a BIID Industry Partner. End-of-bed benches are specified in almost every hotel bedroom scheme, where they double as luggage stands. Araco Atelier benches are made to order at approximately 8–12 weeks in 10 colourways, with samples available. Apply for trade pricing.

Frequently asked questions

How wide should an end-of-bed bench be?

Roughly two thirds to three quarters of the bed width — narrower than the bed, so it reads as a deliberate piece rather than a mismatched one.

How tall should a bedroom bench be?

Level with or slightly below the top of the mattress, usually 45–55cm.

Can a bench be used in a hallway?

Yes, and it is one of the best uses for one. Watch the depth — anything over 45cm narrows a corridor noticeably.

How long do they take to arrive?

Araco Atelier benches are made to order at approximately 8–12 weeks. In-stock Tommy Franks pieces are delivered within 3 working days.

How to choose luxury furniture

Begin with measurements, not with images. Map the piece onto your floor with tape before you commit, and check the route in — doorways, stair turns and lift dimensions defeat more sofas than anything else. Our team can confirm carton dimensions for any piece before you order.

Fabric is the decision people most often revisit. Bouclé brings warmth and tactile depth and suits layered, textural interiors; woven and PU finishes wipe clean and are better suited to family rooms and hospitality settings. We provide free bouclé samples across all ten Araco Atelier colourways — assess them in your own light, against your own walls, before deciding.

For trade and hospitality projects, specify for durability as well as appearance. Contract-quality frames, high-rub-count fabrics and serviceable components matter far more over a five-year horizon than the initial photograph.
