How to Care for Your Alabaster Lighting
Alabaster is a natural stone and one of the most beautiful materials used in decorative lighting. With appropriate care, your alabaster lights will retain their warmth, character and translucency for many years.
Routine Cleaning
Dust your alabaster lighting regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not use abrasive cloths, scouring pads or brushes on the stone surface — they will scratch the finish permanently.
Removing Marks
For light marks on the stone, a very slightly damp microfibre cloth can be used carefully. Wipe in a gentle circular motion and dry immediately with a clean cloth. Do not allow water to sit on the surface.
What to Avoid
- Never use chemical cleaning products, solvents, bleach or acidic cleaners on alabaster — they will damage and discolour the stone irreversibly.
- Avoid touching the alabaster surface with bare hands where possible — skin oils can transfer to the porous stone over time.
- Do not use abrasive or gritty cleaning products.
- Do not expose alabaster lighting to direct water contact.
Bulb and LED Maintenance
Most of our alabaster lighting uses integrated LED modules that are designed to last the lifetime of the fitting without replacement. Where a replaceable bulb is specified, follow the manufacturer's guidelines on the individual product page. Always switch off and allow to cool before changing any bulb.
Metal Components
The brass, bronze or satin brass metalwork on your alabaster light can be wiped with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dried immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners. For antique bronze finishes, avoid polishing — the patina is intentional and part of the character of the piece.
